How Meditation Helps
Meditation is result of
concentration. Concentration is followed by relaxation always. The relaxation
earned because of meditation helps to maintain the metabolism, lowers the high
blood pressure, improve the heart rate and minimize the number of thoughts in
the mind.
When thoughts minimized waves
of brain become stable. So meditation helps one to take control of his/her
mind. Insomnia is easily controlled by simple meditation techniques.
If you are suffering from depression
meditation can yield best results for you. Meditation gives direction to your
thoughts. It removes the negative thoughts. On regular practice meditation has
power to remove the negative mental patterns in the brain.
If you are a student then
meditation helps you improve your memory. Meditation helps you to improve your
concentration. Meditation helps to keep you completely relaxed even in your
exam days. It relaxes the tired minds. It gives strength to the weak minds. It

How to Improve the Memory Power
Definition of concentration
in Chemistry is the abundance of a constituent divided by the total volume of a
mixture. Main constituent is called as solute and this solute is dissolved in a
solvent to form a solution.
My area of concern is
meditation. Concentration is pre-condition for meditation. Here solute is that
single thought which need to be increased. More solute means more
concentration. Here more solute means more focus on a single thought. More
concentration means more relaxation. This is very beautiful thing that
concentration always comes with relaxation. Relaxation is guaranteed with
concentration.
Concentration helps one in
so many ways. Concentration help us to see the things in a better way. It’s
develop a wider attention span. It improve the memory. Concentration assist us
in study and understanding. This helps us to focus on our study or on our task.
Meditation is the most
effective way to improve your concentration. To watch yours thought another
best way of improving your concentration. For this first you must be aware of
your normal breath. Be just a witness of your breath and keep watching that how
breath is coming out and how breathing is going in. Just be aware of this natural
process. Do not try to take breath. Just be witness of it. You will see you are
relaxed. This relaxation is because of concentration you earned from the process.
You can practice tratak to
improve the concentration. Tratak on fire flame yields best results. Tratak can
you two things simultaneously. First it pure the mind and it concentrate the
mind.
Music is also a best method
to increase the amount of concentration. When you start listening a music concentrate
on a single instrument playing in that music or song. For example if you are
listening a song you can concentrate on single instrument; say Tabla’. Keep
your entire awareness on ‘tabla’. You will see you are relaxed. This because of
concentration you earned.
When concentration is
improved and its amount increased remarkably it covert into the happiness.
Happiness is a state of mind and it directly related to concentration of the
mind.
One more method to improve
the concentration is deep breathing. First be aware of your normal breath and
then start deep breathing. Inhale the ample amount of oxygen and prana urja
(vital energy) and retain it then exhale it. Practice it 10 times. Do it very
slowly and calmly. You will see that you are relaxed. You are relaxed again because
of concentration you developed from the deep breathing exercise.

Many studies has been
conducted to look at the efficiency of meditation on physical health and mental
health. Meditation is the most effective means for helping the hypertension has
been referred by the US National Institute of Health.
Meditation reduces stress
level. Activity of adrenal gland reduces by relaxation of mind.
Mediation calm one’s mind.
In the process of meditation we focus on a one single thought. Focusing the
mind on a single thought creates relaxation. But is not the goal of the
meditation technique. Goal of meditation technique is Self-Realization.
General meaning of
Self-Realization is to be aware of true energies behind this world and behind
the formless reality behind different forms.
Mediation have tremendous
powers. It can activate the parts of our brain responsible for involuntary bodily
functions like high blood pressure, migraine, stress, muscular tensions and
others.
Meditation produces
relaxation and this relaxation can change the chemistry of our body to its
natural state as discovered by - The Harvard Medical School.
Human mind generally
dwells in past or in future. This is the main problem of the human mind. Meditation
has power to bring the human mind into the present moment of the life. This
helps us to enjoy the life more accurately.
Mediation help us to
control the emotions as it helps one to be focus at the one single thought.
This leads to immediate relaxation less anxiety state. Meditation helps one to
manage the anger. Anger affects the function of the frontal lobe of our brain.
Anger shut down the
functionality of the frontal lobe which in-turn produces communication problem
and increase the stress level.
Blood Cholesterol is
becoming a major problem in human life. Most of the heart diseases are result
of this blood cholesterol. When we are in stress the adrenal gland start
producing cortisol. This steroid hormone become excess in our body which destroy
the body cells. These destroyed cells are automatically patched up with the cholesterol.
So higher the stress more steroid hormones will released. Meditation naturally
reduced the stress and hence helps to maintain the level of hormones in the
body.
People falls in different
addiction in this modern world. Many of us get addict of alcohol, tobacco, drugs.
Meditation helps one to come out of addiction. Will power gained through the
meditation helps one to fight against the addiction.

How to Meditate – Step by Step
Requirements
A separate room or
a separate space in any corner in your home.
Meditation Cushion
or Any piece of thick cloth.
Procedure
Sit in any
comfortable position. Any comfortable asana you can take. You can also sit on
chair.
Spinal Cord should
be straight.
Head, Chest Should
be perpendicular to the ground.
Start chanting aum
(ॐ) or any other mantra of your choice.
Do it for 5 minutes.
Start Mediation
Now gently close
your eyes. Take the charge of your thoughts for some time.
Visualize a
mountain full of greenery. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize black
clouds in sky. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize birds
flying in the sky. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize an aircraft
in the sky. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize full moon
in the sky. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize full moon
in a blue water lake. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize a river
full of blue water. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize a water
fall. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize flame of
fire on candle. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Visualize a peacock
in a park. Visualize it for 1 minute.
Now place your awareness
at the point between two eyes. Do it for 5-10 minutes.
Now we have to be externalized.
Be aware of the outer sounds. Rub your hands and place tips of your hand on
your eyes gently. Gently open your eyes.
Say Prayer in your
own words.
Your meditation is
finished now.

Project – How to learn Tratak in simple steps?

Preparation
- Sit in any comfortable position on meditation cushion. You can use simple blanket or heavy cotton bed sheet as meditation cushion.
- Keep Candle or Oil Lamp on stand. Level of flame should be at the level of your eyes. Distance between eyes and fire flame is about 2 feet.
- Lit the candle or oil lamp
- Adjust the flame with the forceps
- Practice Nadi Shodhan Pranyaam for 5 minute
- Practice Bharamari Pranyaam for 2 minutes
Procedure –
- Start Gazing at Fire Flame until tears comes out.
- Now close your eyes and start watching point between two eyes with closed eyes.
- Watch time with close eyes should be not less than 5 minutes
- After 5 minutes again open the eyes and start gazing at the fire flame again.
- Repeat the Step number 1 and 2 again and again
Results –
- Thoughts will be settled down after 10 minutes
- Negative of the image of the flame will appear on point between two eyes. You will watch the flame’s negative with close eyes.
- Color of this image will be bright yellow or orange in first phase.
- This image will start moving up and down or right and left.
- When this image appears its intensity will be high and by time this image will be faded out.
- You have to watch until it disappear completely.
- After some time this image will become stationary.
- When it became stationary frequency of thoughts will fall down. Concentration with relaxation will appears in the mind.
- After some time this flame will start changing its colors.
Precautions
- Age limits 12 years – 70 Years
- There should be complete dark in the room.
- Noise free place
- Adjust the shape of the flame with the help of forceps
- One window must me opened during the practice as there may produces CO and CO2 from the candle flame or Oil lamp flame.
- If you are using Oil Lamp, use oil of high smoking point. Sesame Oil has high smoking point.
- Do not gaze more if you face any irritation in your eyes. In this condition do not wait for tears to come. Just gaze as your eyes allow.
- Start with 15 minutes practice only.
- End with meditation and prayer.

Level of our Awareness
Types of Mind
What is in your awareness
in conscious and what is not in your awareness is not conscious mind. You are
awake it means you are completely aware of
all things around you. We are always aware to the same extent whether
for outside or inside of us.
Did you ever think that
why you keep the animal. Because you want to be more aware of the outer world.
For example Dog, Dog is more aware of the outside than to human beings. He can
see beyond we see, he can smell things beyond our smelling capabilities.
But outer awareness is not our concern
actually. It is required and must be required to know the out world around us.
But our main concern is development of inner awareness, inner consciousness.
How many of you right now
are aware of yourselves and to what contents. Are you aware of what is
happening in your mind or you become victim of thoughts? We have to deepen this
awareness, this consciousness.
I am here or I am alive or
I am spending my life or I am 30 years old this is my awareness. If this
awareness disappears everything I am talking about would disappear. If my
awareness disappears I will disappear too.
But our awareness in very
minimum right now. We have to extend it to know more and more behind the
worldly scenes, to understand the reality behind the universe.
Our whole awareness in
struck within the mental impressions or mental patterns available in our
subconscious mind and unconscious mind. We have to separate our awareness from
our impressions and the moment we will separate ourselves from the mental impressions
our consciousness will be released to us tremendously.
That is why meditation is
necessary because with meditation we could be able to release this awareness.

We all are Spiritually Hungry
Spirituality is becoming a
necessity now a days because we become reckless for the other parts of the
human being. We are not single we are three actually. We put your all
attentions on the materialistic part the human being; the body. We concern only
about the bodily part of human instrument. We forget there is a mind, there is
intellect and there is a life principle. You can give a name; the soul, to this
life principle.
We should know how to care
for and feed our minds and souls. Now clinical psychologist are recommending to
adopt the practice of spiritual programs. Spirituality is essential to human
happiness and mental health.
Vedanta is a thought from
spiritual minds from India. The knowledge of Vedanta actually is a happening to
minds of those who practice mediation and deep contemplation. In that deep
state when brains waves went to minimum; the life force give rises to a kind of
spiritual knowledge. That knowledge can be received by anyone who undergo that experience.
Contemplation, meditation,
prayers and other spiritual practices from any branch of religion have the
power to release the life force in the deepest level of human minds. There are
couple of evidences showing that religious and spiritual practices can help
when everything else has failed.
In recent study in US it
is found that most of the Americans want to be spiritual but not want to be
religious. The idea behind this is to nourish the mind and underlying principle
of life force.
Human instrument is not a
single entity; the body. At the same time this instrument is comprises of a body,
a mind and a soul. All these three entities are different from each other.
Methods of nourishment for the each must be different. Methods of nourishment
of body are so many as the entire World is working upon it.
But method of nourishment
for mind start from contemplation and meditation. According to the Mental
Health Foundation one out of four British adults practice the art of meditation.
Besides this 50% would be interested in learning meditation because they think
that meditation can help them improving their health.
We all are fighting for
peace and happiness. Whatever we do in our life is to bring the happiness in
our lives. Sometimes we forget about the peace and only fight for happiness.
But Vedanta says happiness is a state of mind. When mind releases tranquility
we immediately become happy.
Wonderful, indeed, it is
to tame the mind, so difficult to tame ever swift, and seizing whatever it
desires. A tamed mind brings happiness – Buddha.
A tamed mind brings
happiness. Spiritual Practices like yoga, yoga nidra and meditation helps to
tame our mind. After taming the mind there are chances to nourish our soul.
Because the way to reach the soul goes through a silent mind only. After
silencing the mind and after taming the mind we could be able to understand the
underlying principle.
So care of all three parts
of a human instrument is necessary to avoid the stress and to live a peaceful
life.

Mind alone is cause of bondage as well as Liberation
The
phenomenal powers of the mind are evident in one’s dreams, wherein it projects
a whole new world of dream objects. Shankaracharya in ‘vivekchudamani’ in verse
170 told -
“In the dream state, even though there is no
contact with the external world, the mind alone projects the entire
dream-universe of enjoyer etc.
Similarly, the waking-state is no different. All
this (world of myriad phenomena), is but a projection of the mind”.
It is the same mind which was projecting everything in dream state and we experience it. That same mind is again projecting everything in our waking state. We need to think over it again and again and try to know the truth behind.
In dreams mind is causing bondage and in waking state too same mind is causing bondage. Mind is producing thoughts and these thoughts are actually cause of bondage and liberations.
Thus
the triad of ‘experiencer-experienced-experience’ of the dream state is the
mind alone.
The mind alone causes man’s attachment to the body and sense objects. These attachments bind him like an animal being bound by ropes, denying him the freedom to be the infinite blissful self. Thereafter the same mind creates distaste for the sense objects as though they were poison and liberate mind from bondage. Therefore the famous declaration of the Amritabindu – Upanishad – “The mind alone is the cause of both bondage as well as liberation”.

Do we really pray?
Art of saying Prayers.
Prayers
are combination of some words and some emotions addressed to the almighty God.
Words may be differ from religion to religion and from culture to culture but
emotions remain same in the prayers. Emotions and uninterrupted mind are the
main contents of a prayer. If emotions are not there and if uninterrupted mind
will not be there that prayer would not generate any result.
Mind
has so many characteristics and drifting is main one which is a real enemy of
our prayers. As we start saying prayer our mind starts drifting. Drifting of
mind is a kind of wave of mind where mind generate so many thought in response to
a thought said within it. Neglecting and forgetting the words of prayer mind drifts
on others words of any kind and in this way our mind take us away from our
prayers and break our divine communication.
As
communication without current is not possible and in the same manner prayer
with interrupted mind is not possible. Drifting of mind break the current of our
prayers. We need to train our mind for a better communication. We need to silence the mind before we said a
prayer.
I
have experienced that when I have prayed without any interruption it gave me
immediate peace with results. Prayer offered with uninterrupted mind
immediately release peace and tranquility. Results may come sooner or later
but peace of mind is guaranteed.
Did
you remember the story “The Three Hermits” written by a Russian author Tolstoy.
This story appeared in the short-story collection Twenty-Three Tales. The title
of the story refers to its three central characters; unnamed simple monks
living on a remote island where they were praying and meditating for the
salvation of their souls.
A
bishop when traveling in that area overhear a discussion about that remote
island and those three unnamed monks. He also came to know about their prayer
which was – "Three are ye, three are we, have mercy upon us.”
Subsequently,
the bishop acknowledges that those monks have a little knowledge but are
ignorant of the true meaning of the doctrine and how to pray properly. He wants
tell them that he will teach them not a way of his own, but the way of praying
as guided in our book of religion.
He
arranged a small boat and traveled to that isolated Island to teach them exact
method of prayer and exact words of praying. He want to teach them words of
prayer as given in religious book. He reach there on the Island, meets the
three hermits and taught them guided prayers the whole day. After he was satisfied that they have properly
memorized the prayer, the Bishop departs from the island leaving the hermits
with a firm instruction to pray as he has taught them.
The
bishop then returns to his boat and continues his voyage. While on board, the
bishop notices that his boat is being followed. At first he thinks that there was
a boat behind his boat but very soon he realizes that the three hermits are
running across the surface of the water "as though it were dry land."
On reaching near to him they inform him that they have forgotten the prayers
and remember nothing of it. Please teach us those prayers again.
Astonished was the Bishop. Yes, The Bishop was
astonished.
Very
slowly very faithfully the bishop replied to the hermits “Pray your own prayers
to God and also pray for us sinners.”." After this the hermits turn around
and walked back to their island.
This
story of Tolstoy tells us what actually important for a prayer. The devotion,
the emotion and the intention. For those three hermits words of prayers were
not important, their devotion to almighty, their emotions for almighty and
their pure intention for all mighty was important.
There
were only emotion and uninterrupted mind in prayers of those three unnamed
monks.
This
story tells us when you speak to the almighty speaks in your own words speak as
you want to speak to, speak what your heart want to speak.
True
prayers are beyond the words.

When you become hopeless it means your 'Destiny' is working
Life is the mixture
of up and downs, bad or good. Sometimes circumstances doesn't work according to
what is going on in our mind. Mind is actually flow of different thoughts and thought
patterns. We all are here on the planet earth under a definite life plan; the
destiny. Our destiny is actually created by us only. Everything happening to us
is decided by us only. Every individual is actually responsible for what is
happening to his or her life.
But outer world is
fascinating. There are different worldly attractions attracting the individuals
according to their mental patterns or thought patterns. Mental patterns are
negative or positive tendencies which are searching for their worldly
counterpart to get neutralized. Our destiny is working for those tendencies.
Our destiny has to neutralize each and every tendency lying within us and so
that its always working. When there are good days in life destiny is working to
fulfil the life plan and when there are bad days going on destiny is working on
its own way.
Every human being has
its personal life plan and have a destiny. If you born rich; it is only you who
decided this. If you born poor, very poor, it is also decided by you through
your destiny only. No one is responsible for any circumstances brought to you,
only you through your destiny is working to have a particular life style only. One
more important aspect; 'Law of karma' is also applicable, that is what you did
that you get. Law of karma resemble to Newton's third law of motion; that is -
action and reaction are equal and opposite. So, at the same time you have power
to dilute the destiny and also have privilege to act good deeds with the
reacting nature to build a good destiny.
Aim of the life can
never be the fulfilment of worldly procurement. Because worldly material can
never give one the true happiness or the everlasting bliss. Only deep
meditation can reveals to you the joyous of everlasting bliss.
Sometimes when days
are going bad destiny is working for a good. What you do is to sign good deeds
with the ever reacting nature so that you have a destiny accordingly.
So, there are three
thing - you, the doer, reacting nature with law of karma or actions. You can practice
good actions to build a good destiny or to dilute a bad destiny. Everything is
going in a scientific way. Nothing to worry about. You are free to practice new
actions. Only thing is that you need to understand your own destiny and your
negative or positive tendencies. This is called journey of self realization.
Self realization mean to know yourself; to know what you are exactly and why
you are here.
