My Experience with Yoga Nidra |
I have learnt yoga nidra from its original source;
Bihar School of Yoga directly from Swami Niranjanananda Sarawati ji. I am a
yoga teacher from Bihar School of Yoga, Munger. I was there in August 2010.
Yoga nidra is one of the practices of pratyahara where
the awareness is internalized. Literally, yoga nidra means 'psychic sleep' i.e.
sleep with full awareness. It is a state between sleep and wakefulness and is very
amazing and interesting experience beyond senses. Yoga nidra has its origin in
the ancient tantric practice called nyasa. It was Swami Satyananda Saraswati
(1998) who adapted and presented the practice of yoga nidra in a systematic and
scientific way in the 1960s.
Mainly it is meant for ‘Pratyahara’ which is 5th
limb of Patanjali 8 limbs that generally means withdrawal of senses from the
outer world.
There are generally 8 steps in process of yoga nidra.
These are
Preparation
Sankalpa
Rotation of
consciousness
Breath
awareness
Opposite
feelings and sensations
Visualization
Sankalpa
Ending the
practice
One day in august 2010 when I was practicing yoga
nidra with group of almost 60 people. I was about to visualize suddenly I was
distracted a whispering, ‘no body’ was there to speak still I listen a
whispering sound about the death of one of my relative. Someone who was not a
told me that your maternal uncle, Mr. X had been expired today and you don’t
need to worry about anything. I was surprised and astonished at the same time.
Immediately after the session I get connected to my home through local telephone
booth there as we didn’t allow using mobile during our one month course; people
at my home confirmed me death of our relative, I can’t forget this experience
that I got from the practice of yoga nidra.
Now when I become yoga teacher and I was start taking
session of yoga nidra. I had cured some people who were suffering from Arthritis
and insomnia. It was September 2010 when I was generally taking my class of
yoga nidra and I was not meant to cure my student medically. But after the 3 sessions
of yoga nidra two persons told me that they got immediate relief from
arthritis. It was also an amazing experience for me.
One day in April 2011 when I was practicing yoga nidra
through a CD in the voice of Swami Niranjanananda ji. On that day I was feeling
some symptoms of fever in my body. As I told above there are 8 steps in yoga
nidra session. Second and 7th step is of ‘Sankalpa’ that means
anything you want from life just speak to yourself thrice. So, I speak to
myself that I do not want fever in my body now and if it had to happen; I could
allow it after 15 days. Surprisingly it
become true; immediately after the session there was no symptoms of fever in my
body and more surprise was that I got the same fever again exactly after the 15 days as I
committed.
In December 2015 I was taking yoga nidra session of
some student; age about 13-16 years. I have taken total 7 sessions and I got
amazing results. Parents reported me that their wards become more sincere than
earlier. Now they are taking keen interest in study and other home activities
too. They become more aware than earlier.
These are mine few experiences with yoga nidra. We
