Trataka is a visual practice and it uses sight to bring
state of concentration. It helps to still the dissipations of the mind. There are
different methods of practicing Trataka. Each method brings about a different
experience. For therapy purposes method is different and for any other purpose
like concentration, insomnia method is different.
In the primary class, Trataka is practices for the two
purposes: therapy for the eyes and for the concentration. In terms of therapy;
practice of Trataka improves the eye sight. Its practice starts with gazing at
particular object or flame of a candle. When you feel your vision is blurring
and there is deterioration in your vision, you are advised to practice Trataka.
According to Swami Niranjanananda, Bihar School of Yoga, if you practice
Trataka regularly for six months your eye sight will get better.
So, when you need to hold away the paper from
yourself, at that time you should start practicing Tartaka.
